It’s hard to make a Cancer Surgeon happy…

As was mentioned in the previous post, today was scan day. The appointment was in the morning and was somewhat uneventful. The scan did not take long and the bloodwork was quick as well.

Later in the day, the nurse called and told us to prepare for chemotherapy on Friday. This came with mixed emotions as she gave us few details as to why. But the Nurse did say that the Doctor would call later in the day. Removing the cancer seemed logical, and she is ready for it to be gone. But, if another round of chemo is what they planned, then it must be needed. Danelle’s response was “It’s all in God’s perfect timing…”

Later in the evening, the Doctor called Danelle with more details. Most of the areas of cancer have decreased in size by half. Half!!! The chemo seems to have reduced the cancer in the areas in her upper torso, liver, and especially the ovaries. The Doctor summarized her discussion by saying “It’s hard to make a Cancer Surgeon ‘happy’, but I am happy with these scans.”

God is good. His mercies are new every morning (and evening). We won’t pretend that all news will be good news. But we will celebrate when God shows his power and might through his good works and the people he uses to make those good works happen.

Thank you again for all your encouragement, gifts, calls, messages, and definitely prayers. While she still presses onward, it helps so much to know the army of family and friends are behind her. Thank you!!!

For our prayer warriors, please pray:

⁃ That the team of doctors and nurses at Duke continue to have good ideas and make good decisions.

⁃ That this next round of chemotherapy goes well.

⁃ That the chemo shrinks this leach of a tumor down to NOTHING!

  1. God is “showing off” in big ways! We are both SO happy to hear the surgeon found the “happy” moment in it all. We know more good news awaits. Keep fighting!!! Prayers for your chemo tomorrow. Sending love in every prayer. Diane and Jeff.

    1. I can see and feel the love you two have for each other and for God in this picture! Thanks for the update! I will keep you on the prayer list of the 20 ladies in Tues. Bible class at Brentwood Hills church of Christ studying Cecil May Jr.’s book: PROVIDENCE: The Silent Sovereignty of God. Danelle you are being strong and courageous! God bless you. Jesus is our Living Hope! I love Ephesians 3: 20-21”. One patient at Hope a Women’s Cancer Center said she did relaxation breathing during her chemo and imagined the drugs attacking the cancer cells like little pac-men eating up the cancer cells. Norman cousins thought laughter helped him overcome cancer. Give a listen to Willie Nelson, I woke up still not dead again today…. think the title is still not dead. I frequently sing a few bars to Randy who groans,,,,then we have breakfast and read one chapter of the O.T. and one in the N.T. Here we are married 50 years and just now into that routine that Norma Rainey said she and Gene did every night of their marriage. Please keep Dorma, Cheryl, and Eric and their families in your prayers
