Quality Time at Duke & New Schedule

Danelle with her friends Stacy and Rachel

The month of August has been a little challenging to say the least. Danelle was in sort of a Catch-22 and has been trying to navigate the different specialists within the Duke Hospital system.

In August, Danelle met with the Kidney Doctor to try to determine why her kidneys were “angry”. As mentioned before, this was the reason her chemo treatment was paused in early August. After discussing the options, they put together a plan for August.

Step 1: Install a stent to help ensure flow from the Kidneys remained clear and un-obstructed.

Step 2: If kidneys are still not behaving, then a biopsy would need to be done to determine what was going on.

To make a long story short, after a visit to the Emergency Dept and an overnight stay, the stent was placed and it was functioning properly. A second trip to the hospital was needed to try to biopsy the kidney. Unfortunately, this was unsuccessful due to continued high blood pressures.

Where things stand now is that Danelle is started a different chemo regiment that is weekly instead of monthly. The good news is that this is a “lighter” dose and does not impact the kidneys. There are some other side effects that she may/may not have to deal with, but she will cross that bridge if it comes to it. They are still watching her kidneys closely and will be attempting other avenues as time goes on.

We appreciate your prayers, as we continue to lean on HIM for strength, guidance, and healing. Please pray:

  • That the new chemotherapy regiment is successfull
  • That there are no significant side effects
  • For wisdom for all the specialists involved

Also, we’d love for you to join us on Sept 20th for the Gail Perkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Walk and 5k Run. It is an event to raise support for Ovarian Cancer research through Duke University. The link to the general site is below, as well as the site for Danelle’s team page.
